A BAND fronted by a St Helens songstress has made it to the live final to be in with a chance of winning a career-changing prize.

Scarlet, which is led by 27-year-old ex-De la Salle pupil Jessie Robinson, is in the running to win Firestone's Road to the Main Stage award.

The prize includes a VW Touring van; an Orange Amplifier backline; a MainStage festival slot and a weeks recording in a London studio.

In 2016, the band released debut album Effigy, after a £6,000 crowdfunding effort.

The band secured a place in the live final after winning the most votes with more than 1,300 giving Scarlet their approval online.

The band will be competing against two other finalists in London in front of a live audience and four music industry judges.

They will sing two songs at John Henry’s Ltd. in London in the live finals on Thursday (November 22).

This year, the band has released single Bones, and played festivals such as Kendal Calling, Hanwell Hootie, Leestock, The Great Escape, Cotton Clouds festival, Sound City Festival and more.

In a statement, Scarlet said: "We did it! You guys secured us a whopping 1,324 votes and have secured us a place in Firestones #RoadToTheMainStage live final!

"We can’t thank everyone that voted enough for your help and willingness to get behind us and would love to thank you all individually in person. We couldn’t do any of this without you!

"But win or lose now, we are so happy and grateful that we have had a chance to connect with everyone and the level of support shown has really inspired us - shortlisted from 600 bands to a final three, and having thousands of people's support feels like winning in itself."
