THE community is rallying around granddad-of-four Ste Norcross who has been diagnosed with a stage four brain tumour and is looking for alternative treatment abroad.

Dad-of-four Ste, from Parr, recently renewed his wedding vows in Las Vegas to his childhood sweetheart Bernadette.

But he started slurring his speech once he got home.

Concerned he may have suffered a stroke, Ste went to Whiston Hospital only to be told he had a 5cm brain tumour called Glioblastoma Multiforme.

He was referred to Walton the following week.

Given he was otherwise in good health they made the decision to operate as the tumour was growing at a rapid pace.

But sadly the biopsy results came back showing it was in the final stages.

Despite starting radiotherapy and chemotherapy, little can be done for Ste who has been fundraising for others across the community, including 10-year-old Mason Naylor who was fighting cancer.

So now the community and all those he has helped are coming together to raise £60,000 to fund proton beam therapy - a treatment that specifically targets the disease but is not available on the NHS.

Best friend Barry Carmody and his partner Nicola Percival have launched a JustGiving page for people to donate.

They are hosting a charity night on Saturday, November 24 at Bold Miners to raise the funds to keep Ste here for longer.

Nicola, 34, said: "Ste is a great guy who is always there for others and has done so much to raise funds for others who have needed it.

"The community come together to help each other in times of crisis so I really hope that they can do it again.

"He's a hard worker, he helps others and he's a lovely man who does not deserve this."

Sabina Naylor, mum of Mason Naylor from Dentons Green, is also encouraging others to help Ste who helped raise thousands of pounds for her son to have treatment abroad.

She said: "The work Ste does for others is amazing and he is a kind man. He helped our Mason so Mark my husband organised for us to do a walk from Saints to Anfield to raise money for him.

"That's what we've got to do, stick together and help each other when we need it. It's Ste who needs help now and I hope others will help him like they helped our Mason."
