DECEMBER will soon be upon us, but for many children Christmas is not a time of cheer and can be a lonely place.

So St Helens Young Carers, which support young people who care for a loved one and give them emotional support, information, advice and access to services, has opened a Magical Christmas grotto.

This will raise funds towards help this army of young angels this festive season.

The grotto launches on Saturday, November 17 and will include Santa and his elves, complete with talking reindeer and festive music.

Lorraine Pennington, from St Helens Young Carers, said: "It's a very difficult time for young carers at this time of year as they are caring for somebody.

"It's just a very lonely time, or can be for them, so it's just about as a service raising as much money as we can to give them, that support.

"Some of our families are struggling financially so we raise money so we can do things, like give them a hamper, and give them a really lovely Christmas."

Tickets are £4 for entry with a gift from Santa or £2 without a gift.

All proceeds go to St Helens Young Carers.
