A "thoughtless and reckless" burglar who smashed his way through a window to steal a tin containing money from the Millennium Centre has been jailed for nine weeks.

Lee Kermode, 41, of no fixed address, was given the sentence after he pleaded guilty to burglary in court on Saturday, November 10.

A cafe kitchen window had been smashed and a tin containing cash stolen from the premises in the break-in which took place on Saturday, October 6.

Kermode was arrested over the offence on Friday, November 9 and he admitted to the burglary and was charged to appear in court the day after.

Welcoming Kermode's sentencing, Community Inspector Matt Drennan said: "We're delighted that yet another thoughtless, reckless burglar is behind bars. Kermode gave no thought to the impact of his actions on those who work and use this local business.

"We will continue to pursue and prosecute those who attempt to invade people's homes and businesses, which has a massive impact on victims.

“I want to thank everyone in the communities of Merseyside who continue to provide information so we can keep the pressure on offenders like him. We are determined to keep reducing offences and the harm that this causes across Merseyside.

"If you have any information about offences, are aware of any suspected stolen goods being offered around or stored, please come forward and we will take positive action."
