POLICE have made two arrests after a man in his 20s was found with a serious arm injury in the early hours of this morning (Friday, November 9).

At around 3.50am, police were called to Westfield Street to reports of a man is his 20s being found injured in the street.

Police say the full circumstances are not yet known but it is believed that the man was assaulted nearby, which resulted in him being taken to hospital with a serious arm injury.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing, say officers.

A 22-year-old man from Leigh was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and a 21-year-old woman from Wigan was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Both were taken to a police station for questioning.

Detective Inspector Steve Ball said: "At this stage it is unclear exactly what happened, so if you were in the area and saw the incident, or were passing in a car with dashcam, we want to hear from you.

"We will not tolerate any incidents of violence in St Helens so if you have any information let us know."
