POLICE are hunting for a robber after a shop cashier was assaulted and money was stolen from the till.

The robbery took place at McColl's convenience store on Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield shortly after 10.10pm on Monday, October 29.

The offender acted as a prospective customer at the shop - but then as the cashier opened the till to serve him he struck.

The cashier was assaulted by being shoved backwards and money was grabbed from the till.

The offender then fled the shop.

The robber had entered the store several times previously on the same evening before the assault and robbery eventually took place.

Police have now released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Peter Jackson said: “Were you in the area or did you visit the store on the evening of the offence?

“We believe the offender frequented the shop several times before committing this robbery, so there’s a good chance several people saw him.

“We have also released the image of a man we believe may have important information on this crime. Do you recognise the man in the photo?

“If you do, or have any information on this crime, please contact us as soon as possible.”
