A THEATRE show is coming to town to bring the stories of women from across the borough to life in an explosive and unsettling arts performance.

Heart of Glass will be hosting TORCH, the site-specific show by multi-award winning ANU Productions and is the result of two years’ worth of research with women from the town and will bring the voices of communities and untold stories to the fore.

TORCH is part of ‘Helen’, a series of art projects created by Heart of Glass, idle women, and ANU and the women of St Helens and made possible by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence programme.

In a town with a higher than national average level of domestic abuse, Helen responds to an urgent need to address all violence against women.

Kat Dempsey, deputy director of the Heart of Glass, said: “This is a critical project for Heart of Glass and it has been a real privilege for us to connect with women across the town in the creation of this work with our partners ANU and idle women.

The fact this incredible show will happen in our Borough of Culture year, feels like the icing on the cake. Working with international and local partners alike has resulted in the creation of something truly unique, both of this place, and of every place.

“We’re delighted to present TORCH and can’t wait to see how it is received. We hope it will be a really significant moment for us and the town in our ongoing mission to make important work with artists and communities across the borough.”

TORCH will be at the Heart of Glass from Monday, November 19 to Saturday, December 1. Tickets are £6 or £3 for concessions.
