AN off-duty police officer on a mountain bike chased down a suspect who was on the run.

Officers were stop checking a car in Wood Lane, Prescot on Friday night, when the passenger ran off.

But an off duty officer was riding past on his mountain bike and joined the chase.

While still on his bike, he grabbed the suspect on Derby Street. 

A police spokesman said: “It cost the officer a few scuffs and cuts after a crash landing in the roadway as the male was arrested. 

“Drugs (were) recovered inside the vehicle whilst the driver was found to hold a revoked driving licence , no insurance and failed a roadside drug test.”

Two men aged 19 and 21 were arrested at scene on suspicion of numerous offences, say police. An investigation is ongoing.
