ALTRINCHAM'S very own orchestra will perform a concert especially for children.

The concert will be conducted and presented by Thomas Davey and the children will be introduced to the instruments before Carnival of the Animals is performed.

The young audience will be invited to sit around the orchestra so they have a chance to hear, see and learn about the instruments.

Tom Davey, conductor, said: “It is important culturally for young people to have a chance to hear a live orchestra and we want to give that opportunity to our local community.”

On Monday, October 22 at Market House, Altrincham, the Stamford Orchestra will perform Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals for children of all ages.

There will be two performances at 1pm and 3pm and each concert will last an hour.

The orchestra is made up of professional musicians from the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, freelance professionals and students from the RNCM.

Since their first concert in July 2015, Andrew Pettitt (principal oboe) and Tom Davey (conductor) have put on 13 concerts raising more than £17,000 for charity.

The proceeds from past concerts have been donated to Oxfam, Barnardos, MacMillan, Music for Kenya, Reverse Rett, Syria Relief, UNICEF, Musicians' Benevolent Fund, Francis House Childrens' Hospice, Amnesty International and the Childrens' Adventure Farm Trust.
