A CREATIVE arts celebration is set to take place in Leigh.

As part of the Light Night festival, Leigh Library will hold a number of workshops on Thursday, October 25 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

They will include paper sculpting, bee-light candle making and bird and butterfly feeder making.

There will also be a Light Night parade from Bradshawgate to Civic Square from 6.30pm where residents can join in and bring their own lanterns.

On Saturday, October 27, there will be workshops and a parade in Wigan town centre.

Cllr Nazia Rehman, cabinet member for resources, finances and transformation at the council, said: “Encouraging people to learn, embrace their creativity and use digital skills in innovative ways is something I’m extremely passionate about.

“The D:Circus project has been invaluable for both local artists and young people borough-wide over the last two years.

"The scheme has brought digitally creative opportunities direct to libraries and schools, reaching people that may not ordinarily interact with digital arts and culture.

“This is a fantastic way to recognise the success of the programme and is another interactive event that will bring people into our town centres.”

The festival follows the two-year digital arts project, D:Circus, which took place at libraries across the borough.

It is also part of national festival of arts and culture, Museums at Night, which sees cultural spaces around the UK being opened up at night.
