AN AIR ambulance was called after one person was rescued from a lorry following a crash near the M6 in Newton-le-Willows this morning.
Two lanes were closed on the M6 southbound entry slip road due to a crash which involved two lorries and a car at Junction 22 at Winwick Link Road, Newton-le-Willows.
There is traffic congestion up to Junction 23 at Haydock Island.
Lanes one and two (of three) are closed on the main carriageway as well as the entry slip.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "We sent three fire engines to the incident which involved two lorries and a car.
"One person has been trapped in one of the lorries and has now been removed and taken to hospital."
He did not comment on the nature of the injuries sustained but said they are not believed to be life-threatening.
