FOUR men have been charged by police after a suspected stolen car was stopped by police near Carr Mill Dam following a chase along the East Lancs Road.

A police helicopter was called to aid with the pursuit of a Volkswagen Golf at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon (October 6).

The car was travelling along the East Lancs towards Haydock, with police cars in pursuit supported by the National Police Air Service helicopter.

The Volkswagen, which is believed to have been stolen in Formby the day before, was eventually stopped near Carr Mill Dam and police arrested four suspects.

Since, officers have charged four men in connection with the incident.

These are:

  • Kieran Murphy, 21, from Parton Street, Fairfield, Liverpool was charged with driving whilst disqualified; driving with no insurance; aggravated vehicle taking; damage to a vehicle and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
  • Mark Bleasedale, 29, from Bardsay Road, Walton, Liverpool was charged with aggravated vehicle taking; being carried on a stolen vehicle and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
  • Jordan McAleer, 18, from Rocky Lane, Anfield, Liverpool was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and being carried on a stolen vehicle;
  • Lewis Langfield, 21, from Snaefell Avenue Old Swan, Liverpool was charged with aggravated vehicle taking and being carried on a stolen vehicle.

All four men will appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Magistrates Court this morning, (Monday, October 8).
