POLICE have stepped up patrols in Newton-le-Willows in the wake of a spike in burglaries in the area.
The Star reported on a flurry of break-ins around the area earlier this week.
Officers say they are patrolling the area in both marked and unmarked cars.
St Helens Police said: "We will be utilising both marked and unmarked vehicles.
"We hope you will continue to support us and should you have any information please contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. "Please don't make it easy for thieves and ensure your windows and doors are locked and valuables are not left visible."
