AN up-and-coming scriptwriter has scooped an award.

Charlotte Blackmore, from Atherton, won the Scriptshop Shield in a competition held by the Tyldesley Creative Writers at The Pelican Centre.

A judging panel awarded her play ‘Hello Harold’ with the prize out of six entries.

As well as the shield she was presented with a plaque, framed certificate and a cash award.

The runner-up for the competition was Lesley Garvey for her play The Story. She was handed a framed certificate and a cash prize.

John Kennedy finished in third for Returned to Sender and was also presented with a framed certificate and money.

The remaining finalists, Kevin Shirley, Pat Starkey and Martine Royle also left with framed certificates for their entries.

All of the scripts were performed at the centre with drama group Act III helping with direction and acting.

Former chair of Scriptshop Doris Critchley presented the prizes along with founder member Julie McKiernan and competition administrator Mary Berry.
