THE borough's twinning with French city Angers goes back more than 30 years.
It allows residents to learn more about each other's cultures and develop relationships with schools and community groups.
The new ambassador from Angers, Clément Dhollande, 22, has arrived to start work.
Clement replaces Martin Pouvreau.
He said: "As a freshly graduated translator, I am eagerly looking forward to discovering the borough, meet its people and promote strong and lively projects to strengthen this relationship which is already decades old.
"Continuing the partnership is a thrilling opportunity for me and I’m excited to start."
Schools, community groups and arts organisations can get involved in the twinning programme by calling 01942 489193 or by emailing angers@wigan.gov.uk.
