A MUM who suffered the heartbreak of losing her baby daughter to meningitis is continuing in her mission to raise awareness and help others whose lives have been devastated by the illness.

Faye Murray, 25, lost 17-month-old daughter Shakira Louise suddenly during the night after arriving for a family holiday in Wales in April 2016.

Faye, from Windlehurst, has dedicated herself to help raise awareness of meningitis and help in the fight against the devastating disease.

To mark Meningitis Awareness Week this month, Faye held a cake sale which was hosted by the Radiology department at Whiston Hospital.

Faye said: "I want to get a massive thank you out to the X-ray department at Whiston Hospital who took it upon themselves to get involved with my charity work and raise funds for meningitis for Shakira."

Jessica Rigby, of the Radiology department, at Whiston, said: "This charity has become quite close to me as my friend Faye sadly lost her little girl to meningitis.

"Since, I've been wanting to help in any way I can. Spreading awareness can save another person's life but also bring that little bit of happiness to those who have lost someone to meningitis by seeing people are trying to make a difference and help raise money for important research.

"It must be a great feeling knowing they have all this support in the fight against meningitis."
