A DAD-of-three who was left blinded in one eye says his life is "in tatters" – and feels he will never receive justice.

Mark Pye was walking home with his friend on Stainton Close, Carr Mill, in the early hours of February 25 after watching Match of the Day at his brother's house.

Following a violent incident, the 43-year-old was rushed to hospital where he had more than four hours of surgery.

When he came round, doctors told Mark the optic nerve in his left eye had been severed and he will never be able to see out of it again.

He has also been partially blinded in his right eye.

Mark alleged he was attacked and a defendant was charged with causing gross bodily harm with intent, having a bladed article and unlawful wounding.

However, after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court in August the defendant was found not guilty.

Mark, who worked in roof cladding, said: "My life has been left in tatters after what happened to me.

"Not long after the incident I split up with my partner and moved back into my mum's house so I don't live with my three kids anymore.

"I can't drive now either which means I can't do things like take the children to the rugby or do shopping for my dad who is wheelchair bound and lives in Haresfinch.

"I've not been able to work either because I need my car to travel across the North to get to jobs.

"I don't like to compare my situation with what happened to Danny Fox, but like his family, I think justice has not been served to me."

Mark, who has regular appointments at St Helens Hospital, is also having counselling to come to terms with his situation.

He added: "Being blinded in one eye and partially sighted in the other has been psychologically tormenting for me.

"It has really affected my mind and I have never felt anything like it.

"I have been told that if the pressure does not return to my left eye then it may have to be removed so I could have the angst of that to deal with.

"It had been completely punctured and still has stitches at the back of it."
