HERE are six events coming up in the community.

St Helens Star:

  • Shopping event

AN EVENT for students will be held at Church Square Shopping Centre next Thursday, September 27.
The shopping centre’s one-day spectacular will see numerous discounts for students across fashion and leisure brands between 9am and 5.30pm.
Savings of up to 20 per cent will be available at high street favourites including: River Island, Select, EE, JD Sports as well as offers from the centre’s food mix, such as Millie’s Cookies and Greggs. 
Plus, get the perfect ‘Insta-worthy’ selfie in a fabulous selfie mirror with the help of the free and professional face glitter station – open between 10am and 4pm in St Mary’s Arcade.
Discounts can be redeemed with a valid student card or with the UNiDAYS app.

  • Evening of music 

THERE will be an evening of music and song at the Unison Social Club on Bishop Road, Dentons Green, a week on Saturday, September 29. 
The event will be held with Deacon Dave Caldwell, and maybe the odd guest. 
Tickets are £10, including hotpot and bingo. 
All proceeds in aid of Willowbrook Hospice.

  • Poetry evening

POETRY fans are invited to a hilarious evening with St Helens award-winning poet Lynn Gerard next Thursday, September 27.
Momo’s on Cotham Street will be hosting the event from 6pm, where guests can join in writing their own poetry guided by Lynn. 
 

  • Ceilidh dancing 

LIMITED tickets are still available for a fundraising Irish Dance event to help children at Corpus Christi Primary School. 
The Ceilidh dance event will be taking place on Friday, September 28, with tickets costing £10 each – including a Cottam’s hotpot. 
It will be held at The Junction Pub, in Rainford, with free bus transport from The Star pub, stopping on Church Road, Ormskirk Road and Old Lane, in Rainford. 
The free return journey in Rainford will be at 11.30pm. 
The night will also include games and a raffle.

  • Family tree search

NEW to family history but don’t know where to start?
St Helens Library service will be holding a free event at Eccleston Library for residents to delve into the local history archives available on site.
No booking is required and it will be open from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. 

St Helens Star: Family history course in Ilminster

  • Health Walk

JOIN a four-mile Health Walk at Bankes Park, Billinge on Tuesday next week, September 25. 
It will start at 1.30pm at the car park on Main Street, Billinge.
