I WANT to write about the junction of Walmesley Road and Houghtons Lane which is closed with traffic diverted to Ecclesfield Road and then on to Oak Tree Road, due to work connected with the new housing development at the Carmelite.

I use this route for my commute to work on to the East Lancs Road and the volume of traffic on the diverted route through the estate has highlighted the amount of the traffic (which is only a fraction at present) that would be travelling on this route if the proposed development was to go ahead.

Even with an entry and exit on to Houghtons Lane this would never be enough to carry the amount of traffic from a new development.

Someone from St Helens Council Planning should maybe take the route for themselves at present to show the roads around this area were not designed for such volume of traffic and at the other end of the possible development.

How traffic will merge on to an already congested Bleak Hill Road is anyone’s guess?
