CHILDREN who took part in a five-week sports activity camp aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour over the summer holidays have received top prizes for taking part.

The Fuzzfest sports camp, organised for the second year by PCSOs in Newton-le-Willows, had around 250 children involved across twice a week over the summer holidays ranging from age four to 16, at Hope Academy.

It was run by PCSOs Natalie Gabriel and Emma Stevens and funding from the force's Community Engagement Team was used to buy sports equipment including footballs, cricket sets, dominoes, limbo and a Zorb football session.

Local shops and organisations such as Gulliver's World, Everton FC, Manchester United FC and Blackpool Pleasure beach donated refreshments and prizes.

The winners, aged between five and 14, were: Parker McClymont; Harry and Libby Slater; James Corrigan; Matthew and Liam Boardman; Rihanna and Keira Platt; Cole, Tori and McKenzie Kelly; Alfie Cregg; Alice and James Bragger; Dylan Porter; Keira Maher; Morgan Hughes; Dylan Shaw and Ryan Hinde.

They won different prizes such as going the National football museum, the blue planet aquarium, Darkstar laser, a Man United tour, a Man City tour, an Everton photograph, Gullivers world, Beatrix Potter world, splash world and Blackpool pleasure beach which were presented today Wednesday, August 29, at the school by Community Policing Sergeant Neil Birkett.

He said: "The most important thing about this event is that local families were able to try some new activities, have lots of fun and hopefully look at the police in a different light.

"We're really grateful to Hope Academy and those organisations who supported this event, and long may it continue for years to come.

"As any parent will tell you, the summer holidays can be a difficult time to keep young people active and busy. But when we all get together, great things can happen."
