PROPOSALS to build two houses on green belt land near to Ashton Golf Club have been refused by St Helens Council.
The plans, submitted by Cassidy + Ashton on behalf of applicant Marina Hanley, sought to create two homes on land at Le Chateau on Millfield Lane.
The planning application claimed that the development would "enhance the character of the listed building situated adjacent to the site" and "facilitate the restoration, enhancement and protection of Le Chateau".
However the plans, which attracted three letters of objection, were thrown out by the local authority.
In refusing permission, planning officers said the proposals were "inappropriate development in the green belt which causes harm to the green belt by reason of its inappropriateness and harm to openness".
It was also stated the development would result in "harm being caused to a woodland".
The application was said to have failed to "demonstrate why development should be allowed".
