MAJOR traffic delays are in place this morning after a car overturned on the East Lancs at Haydock Island.
Emergency services were called just after 6am today, Tuesday, August 7 to the accident on the eastern side of the roundabout.
Police report that a Mazda overturned on the A580 near the junction to the roundabout on the East Lancs after a crash with a Jaguar car.
The driver of the Mazda, a 43-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital.
His wife, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "My husband was driving home from work down the East Lancs when the Jaguar came across and hit his car.
"A lorry driver and my husband's colleague in a car behind stopped to help him.
"I was so scared when I found out until I saw him and realised he's reasonably ok.
"He's had a CT scan and is very very sore but he's been released from hospital now."
The council have been called to replace damaged traffic lights and pedestrian barriers.
