THIS Sunday will see a host of celebrities do battle on the bowling green for the Lol Pennington Cup at Ruskin Drive.

The latest names to be confirmed as taking part in the Barton Pickles JV Crown Green Bowling Challenge include Prescot-raised actress Sue Johnston.

The Royle Family and Waking The Dead star will be among the 16 famous names taking part, with members of the public taking part in a social media bidding process to take on a celeb of their choice.

Those taking part will battle it out for the Lol Pennington Cup, named in honour of comedian Johnny Vegas' late father.

Also hitting the bowling green at Ruskin will be Saints' Cockney-born forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.

Other already confirmed participants include Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Benidorm star Tim Healy and Car Share's Sian Gibson.

The Steve Prescott Foundation announced the challenge will take place at Ruskin Sports Village on August 12 from noon.

Other confirmed celebrities include Johnny Vegas himself; boxer Martin Murray; actor Ricky Tomlinson; lead singer of ABC Martin Fry and Emmerdale actor Michael Parr.

Also competing is Afghanistan war veteran Andy Reid; ex-Saints stand-off Tommy Martyn; Wagga from Rugby AM; former rugby league players Lee Briers and Barrie McDermott and Archie Kelly from Phoenix Nights.

Each participant who takes on a celeb will receive a signed framed picture with the celeb courtesy of SPF Charity friends Framesmart.

The day will also be packed with fun for all the family, with entertainment on the day.

Mountain Monkeys will be providing a range of activities in the adrenalin zone which will include Climbing Walls, Archery, Axe Throwing.

The Event Station based at Carden Park Hotel will be hosting an inflatable arena including football darts that will have a special prize for the winner.

The Rugby Football League will be providing their ManVan with all kinds of interactive games.

There will also be a Gents Barbers; Noah Experience Reptile Show; Face Painting, Raffle, Tombola, BBQ from Sticky Wicket plus a host of fun & games.

All monies raised will be split between Bev Dixon and Linzi Prescott's Everest Challenge which starts in October.
