THESE are the injuries sustained by a granddad-of-six who was left permanently blind in one eye after he was attacked from behind on Westfield Street last week.

Kenny Miller, 45, was attacked as he was walking back to his town centre home after taking his daughter for a haircut five days after she had given birth to his latest grandchild.

Dad-of-seven Kenny says he was struck by an object from behind while making his way home at around 7pm on Friday, July 27.

He has been left permanently blind in his left eye due to the attack.

Kenny, who is due to undergo surgery at Fazakerley Hospital early next week, also sustained a broken eye socket and a broken cheekbone in the attack.

"I was just going home and he saw me," said Kenny, a former excavator driver who has had to take time away from work after suffering from testicular cancer a couple of years ago.

"I think he was drunk and he just assaulted me. The next thing I know, I woke up in A&E 24 hours later.

"I had just taken my daughter for her hair cut at Classy Cuts, because she had only had a baby five days previously."

Kenny added: "My hip needs replacing but I'm having keyhole first to try it that way.

"I was an excavator driver but had cancer two years ago. And I am waiting for a hip operation any time soon as well.

"It needs replacing but I'm having keyhole first to try it that way," added Kenny, who is staying with his daughter until he goes to Fazakerley.

Police said the victim was struck by an unknown object such as a bottle, though he is not sure what it was.

A report made to police said a woman was also assaulted at the scene but it is believed that she was not as seriously hurt in the incident.

Officers investigating the attack have conducted CCTV enquiries.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "This is a serious assault and we are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed it or may have any dashcam footage taken at the time of the incident which can assist the investigation to come forward."
