PUPILS at Bleak Hill Primary School have been taking part in a host of activities to celebrate St Helens’ 150th anniversary – topped off with a special assembly celebrating all the town has to offer.
As well as working with artist in residence Nyree Waters to make a mosaic depicting many of the things St Helens is famous for – the children have also made a clay tealight holder to depict “out of the earth came light” and a “Dream Sculpture” with each student attaching their personal dream for the future.
A special assembly saw pupils sing Stronger Together and Welcome to our Town while holding their special tealights, as well as poetry readings and talk from pupils about how St Helens has changed.
This was all topped-off with a 1950s-style dance performance by Key Stage 2 pupils.
A school spokesman said: “There was a tremendous amount of pride in St Helens evident today and we hope the assembly is something the children will look back upon in years to come with fond memories.”
