A HOMELESS support charity have today launched a hub dedicated to helping those most in need in the community.
Not-for-profit organisation Teardrops, took over the former Larkins building on Crab Street earlier this year in a bid to provide the homeless in the community with a place where they can access all of their services under one roof.
After an extensive renovation, it now offers a communal space, a kitchen, a hairdressing section, games room, DVD room, two quiet zones, advice counter and information desk as well as an office for staff.
A night cafe will be open four days a week.
Co-founder Shauni Ward said: “It’s really overwhelming that the day is finally here where we can show it off because there was many a time we didn’t think we would get here.
“I’m so proud of how different businesses, volunteers and the community have pulled together to help make this happen.
“A lot of work has gone into this place and we just can’t wait to show it to our service users.”
A mum-of-three who uses the service added: “Last September I was finished at work alongside my partner and we didn’t know where to turn – but Teardrops was here to support me.
“They gave me the help I needed, fed me and helped me get back on track. I’m now terminally ill and they still help me and support me – it’s a family here.”
