IT’S nearly deadline time for entries to St Helens’ Open Art competition - which could see the winner take home £2,000.

The exhibition is the biggest event for artists aged 16 and over who live, work or study in St Helens and covers all media including ceramics, digital, drawing, glass, mixed media, painting, photography and sculpture.

Artists can submit up to two pieces (however all 2D artworks including frames must be no larger than one metre by one metre.)

This year will also see a special prize awarded in recognition of the town’s 150th anniversary.

All artists will need to register and submit their work to The World of Glass this Saturday, June 30 from 11am to 4pm or next Monday, July 2 from 2pm to 7pm to be in with a chance of winning.

Entry forms can be picked up at all town libraries, The World of Glass, Rennies Art Shop and the Heart of Glass.

Hannah Billinge, curator at the World of Glass, said: “This week has seen the excitement building as local artists put the finishing touches to their entries.

“We’ve already had lots of emails and enquiries and are constantly amazed at the way the artistic standards seem to go on rising year after year.

“By moving it to the summer seven years ago we have been able to exhibit their talent to a much greater number of local, regional and national visitors.”

The preview and prizegiving takes place on Tuesday, July 10 and all selected artwork will be exhibited in Gallery One, Level One Gallery and The Godfrey Pilkington Gallery at The World of Glass from Saturday, July 7 to Friday, September 7.

The Open is presented by The World of Glass in partnership with St Helens Council, The Heart of Glass and The Rainford Trust.
