HE MAY have a big world title fight in London around the corner but Martin Murray has made sure he has the time to help an event for the Steve Prescott Foundation in his hometown.

Martin will take on Billy Joe Saunders at the O2 Arena on Saturday, June 23 for the WBO World Middleweight Championship.

However, he will be at Blundells Hill Golf Club to help a charity golf day for the SPF on Thursday, May 24.

Proceeds will go to the SPF's charities; The Christie, The Rugby League Benevolent Fund and the SPF Special Causes Fund in memory of the inspirational cancer battler and former rugby star.

As well as continuing the legacy of its founder, the SPF looks to continue to make a difference to people’s lives.

The day has been organised by Stewart Jordan, from Rainhill, who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last year in aid of the SPF.

The day at the Rainhill golf club will include breakfast on arrival; 18 holes of golf; a three-course meal; top class MC and comedian Pete Emmett; a Q&A with Martin; a live and silent auction and fantastic prizes to be won.

Ahead of the event, Stewart, 41, said: "The Steve Prescott Foundation is a fantastic cause and something I feel very strongly about.

"It was only by chance that I came across the charity because I attended a golf day last year whose organiser was supporting the SPF.

"Once I’d looked into the charity further and grasped just how much Stephen suffered and battled on throughout his illness, I knew right away it was something I wanted to support.

"Like most families I’m sure, we have also suffered at the hands of this dreadful illness and I’ll be climbing Everest later on this year, not just to support the charity, but also to honour my sister who we lost in 2016."

Stewart added: "A golf fundraising event at Blundells Hill Golf Club in Rainhill is a perfect way to highlight the excellent work of The Foundation and also raise some vital funds in a way that the whole community can get involved in.

"It will be a fun-filled day with something for everyone including guest Speaker in multiple time world title challenger Martin Murray and top class MC and comedian, Pete Emmett.

"I promise it's going to be a fantastic day for a fantastic cause."

To enter, cost for a team of four, including the full day's entertainment, is £380.
