ST Helens will soon see a new design on the 10A and 10 bus to Liverpool - to be named after comic legend Sir Ken Dodd.

The rare honour is a tribute to the national treasure from Knotty Ash, who died earlier this year - which the service passes through on its route.

After a sterling career as a stand-up comedian, tickling the hearts and minds of the nation with his feather duster, Sir Ken Dodd was highly regarded as one the best comedians of his time.

Lisa Pearson, head of marketing for Arriva North West, said: “Ken was such an inspiration and much-loved character in Liverpool, and so we couldn’t think of a better way to honour him and his contribution to the arts industry.

“We hope that people will look out for his name on the bus and that this will once again bring a smile to all those who remember him and his joyful spirit.”

Robert Holmes, Sir Ken Dodd’s publicist, added: “We are very touched at this kind gesture, Ken would be so proud if he were here to see this today.”

The newly named bus will read: ‘In remembrance, this bus is named after Sir Ken Dodd. 1927 - 2018. A true Liverpool comedy legend.’
