A 35-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court today charged with causing the death of retired bookmaker Albert Brown in December 2016.

Mr Brown died aged 82 after being involved in a car crash on Gorsey Lane, Clock Face on December 22, 2016.

Carl John Moffatt, of Threadneedle Court, Sutton appeared before Liverpool Magistrates' Court today (Thursday).

He is charged with causing the death of Mr Brown by dangerous driving while in a Ford Focus during the incident.

Moffatt is also charged with causing the death by driving without due care while having a breakdown product of cocaine in his system and causing death by driving without due care while being unfit through drugs.

He has also been charged with causing the death while being uninsured.

Moffatt is also accused of causing serious injury to Tim Brown by dangerous driving and with causing serious injury to Paul Sutcliffe by dangerous driving.

The case has been sent to Liverpool Crown Court where Moffatt will next appear on Thursday, March 29.

He has been released on unconditional bail until then.

A tribute to Mr Brown by his family following his death referred to him as a "truly devoted family man" and as "happy, kind natured and generous".
