SCHOOL children from around Cheshire will have their work on display as part of a new art project.

Visual Arts Cheshire (VAC), have developed a new project to build upon previous initiatives that they delivered last year.

‘Our Town’, which is the brainchild of Phil Carswell from VAC, will involve 24 schools who will be displaying paintings in shop windows from Thursday, February 8 until March 12.

The artwork will celebrate and showcase the town as well as neighbouring villages, based on the children’s’ perceptions of their own communities.

The project will be launched by Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge on Friday  and will also be supported by the Northwich Business Improvement District (BID), which will be sponsoring trophies awarded for the most interesting entries along with providing certificates for all of the participating schools.

Phil has been delighted by the enthusiasm and support given by schools and businesses since the idea about the project was initially introduced.

“Over thirty local shops will be hosting the work, including all the new businesses within Barons Quay, shops the length of Witton Street and also the Memorial Court," he said.

“We are also grateful for the support of Phil Bower at Northwich Art Shop who does so much to promote the arts within the town.

“We hope this will become an annual event along with the Summer Art Trail and encourage interest in the town as it enters an exciting stage in its history, as well as promoting interest in the arts.”
