A MAN has been seriously injured on the Tesco car park earlier today after a Bentley hit a number of parked cars.

A police cordon was put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident which took place at 9.40am on the car park of the supermarket, off the St Helens Linkway.

It is believed a Bentley, which had been dropped off for valeting by the owner, has struck a Nissan and then hit a number of other vehicles.

A man, who it is believed was a pedestrian, has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries. Police say he is in a critical condition.

Up to seven cars appear to be damaged on the car park.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "One male in his sixties has been taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

"The family of the man have been advised of this.

"There are currently no road closures in place. Other parked vehicles were also damaged but no further person were injured.

Ian Pickavance, the owner of the Bentley, explained how he had dropped off his car for cleaning and was in Tesco when the crash happened.

He said: "I dropped the car off at around 8.30am for a valet and then I walked to work at Kealshore.

"They said it was going to be 45-minutes, so my dad drove me back around 10.10am and when I got there I saw that something had happened, and my car was in the middle of all the carnage.

"Police and ambulances were there, in fact the ambulance was just about to leave because the man had apparently been hit just 30 minutes earlier or something.

"In my opinion nothing malicious happened I think whoever was moving my car lost control of it.

"I put it on Facebook that it was my car, clearly I wasn’t driving it but it’s just a terrible thing to happen to the man that was hit – especially days before Christmas.

"Obviously I’m not thrilled this has happened to my car I wasn’t expecting it but I hope the man is OK.

"I just hope he makes a full recovery or is OK, that’s what really matters.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 or Merseyside Police Roads Policing team on 0151 7775747 quoting incident number 0307 of November 22."
