GEOFF Sandford from the North West Museum of Transport reports: “Plans are being made for the transport museum to remember that 2018 is not only 150 years since the town was a borough but 60 years since the last trolleybus ran.

“We will be commemorating this as well as the borough celebrations.
“I will give you more details at a later date but it will include the return of the St Helens trolleybus 387 (BDJ 87) to the town.

“Many former preserved St Helens motor buses will also be attending the event.

“We are also getting ready for the 150th celebrations of St Helens Fire Service lorry LDJ 57.

“It took part in the 100 years celebrations – and I was on the float.”

“Still a lot to plan for the trolleybus event, except to say it could be the last time the trolleybus comes home (it may be with us for 2 years loan) as none of us are getting any younger to arrange these big events. It is quite a task to arrange transportation, insurance, costs, etc.”

“Your followers may be interested to know that the following DVD’s are available now at the Transport Museum, at £9.50 each. ‘St Helens & South Lancashire trolleybuses’, ‘Liverpool trams’, ‘Liverpool Overhead Railway’ and ‘Mersey Ferries’.

These can be obtained in the museum shop in Hall St when the museum is open Sat/Sun 12 to 4pm.

If there is an event on, usually 11 to 4pm. Anyone interested can pop in to buy one without going into the museum.

“Also, if you wish, I have some memories of Pythians Travel agents that use to be in Westfield St., including a luggage label they used.

The shop was situated where the big Asda roundabout is now, between Lowe Street and Peter Street."
