A CHILD'S piggy bank was stolen along with two mountain bikes when burglars targeted a house.
Offenders broke into a home on Ashton Road, Newton-le-Willows.
Detective Constable Roy Waller said: "This burglary would have been a distressing experience for all the family but especially the children whose bikes they are; both these bikes were brand new to the family.
"It beggars belief that someone could steal a child’s piggy bank and I would appeal to anyone with information to do the right thing."
The bikes were a Specialized Rock Hopper in silver and a brand new orange Isla Creig 24 mountain bike.
DC Waller added: "I would urge anybody who was in the area during the afternoon of 4 July who saw anything or anyone acting suspiciously or any information that could be useful to come forward.
"Likewise, if you have been offered either of these bikes for sale in recent days, please let us know."
The burglary happened on Tuesday, July 4 at about 3pm.
Anyone with information is asked to call detectives on 0151 777 6802, call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
