PUPILS at Penkford School have got tough on knife crime after workshops held by police officers
The Newton-le-Willows special school, which teaches children emotional, social and mental learning difficulties, have been holding several workshops to raise awareness of crime.
These have been led by their Safer Schools Police Officers (SSPOs), PC Wendy Kindness and PC Joanne Lawson.
They said: “Penkford pupils are vulnerable so our aim is to keep our young people away from risk and threat.
“Our workshops on the theme of ‘Lives Not Knives’ are deliberately hard hitting.
“We want to alert pupils to the risks associated with knife crime”.
Nicola Laughton Assistant Head said,”Our pupils really took to heart the message about the risks associated with knife crime, gaining an understanding that carrying a knife can have wide reaching consequences and ultimately lead to tragedy."
Jon McKune, lead for Safeguarding and Engagement at the school, added: “Penkford has developed close links with several multi-agencies and our work on safeguarding has been highly praised."
The school plans to launch a Pop Up Help Clinic for parents and carers facilitated by our two SSPOs next month.
