RESIDENTS have raised concerns about plans to convert a former pub into 14-bedroom multiple occupancy housing.

If plans get approval, the vacant Bowling Green pub, which has been empty for around 12 months, will be converted to house the bedrooms as well as two kitchens and two living areas.

The application by GW Evans Construction Group, proposes14 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms on both the ground and first floors of the property on Robins Lane, Sutton.

Changes to the original layout include a proposal for a single storey extension to house two apartments with their own living and kitchen areas.

If passed, the kerb would also be dropped at the back of the property and the boundary wall would be demolished to make way for parking for seven cars.

A Robins Lane resident, who wants to stay anonymous, said: “People around here are not happy about this and we are telling all the nearby neighbours and schools.”

The proposal, submitted to St Helens Council, requests a change of use and conversion of the existing vacant public house to HMO (houses in multiple occupation) residential accommodation.

After looking into the application, an objection has been submitted by the principal transport officer for St Helens Council, referencing inadequate allocated parking at the site. It states that the proposed seven bays for 14 residents plus potential visitors would not be enough, adding that 12 at least would be needed.

It also added a concern regarding reduced visibility for vehicles turning into Baxters Lane due to the potential parked cars around the site.

Interested parties have until Monday, May 15 to send their views to the council.
