CONTINUING the topic of alleyways, the harsh reality is that they are an easy access/escape root for burglars, I am currently renovating a property in St Helens, which unfortunately has recently been broken into.
After assessing the situation, it has become clear that the easy access alleyways are now used as escape routes and entry points by burglars.
From speaking to a lot of locals in the area and also my neighbours, who have had previous break ins, it has been brought to light that the entry and escape routes have all been the alleyways behind the houses.
My proposal would be to add one CCTV camera per alley entrance, plus lighting which would hopefully deter these criminals and make residents feel safer in their own homes.
This I feel would be a small cost to St Helens Council and could help to reduce a high percentage of crimes, also helping to identify these criminals, making St Helens a safer place to live.
