IN response to a recent letter about the NHS.
There are funding problems in the NHS and there are abuses of the system.
But is the writer aware that 16 paracetomol cost 25p at Tesco whilst a prescription for paracetomol costs the NHS £10.
Quite a difference, so if those who are now prescribed over the counter medicines could purchase them themselves maybe the NHS will survive.
We are only too aware of the costs, the question is how do we reduce costs?
The writer of the letter talks about charging people who need treatment re. self inflicted causes.
That is quite dangerous, some of these people have worked all their lives, have paid taxes and National Insurance. Why should we prevent them being treated?
Also he/she completely forgets mental illness.
So, we are very lucky to live in Merseyside. In my view we have a first class NHS. We also have some of the finest specialist hospitals in the world, among these are Clatterbridge, Walton Centre for Neurology, and Liverpool Heart & Chest.
