WE had some feedback on another picture featured a few weeks ago.

Barbara Moore writes: “The picture looks like Waterdale Crescent, Sutton. The long row on the right had a chip shop on the end and you could get a 4d or 6d bag of chips.

“At the left side of the row next to the other terraces on the left was a church hall. I remember going there to jumble sales.

“The terraces on the left of the picture still stand but all the rest were knocked down and a house was built for the parish vicar. The Catholic convent was at the back of these houses. It was all flattened and a new housing estate is there now.”

The photo was labelled Waterdale Crescent, so she is right.

I’ve had a message from a new ‘Friends of’ group set up to continue the works and improve the site at Colliers Moss and get more community engagement and events under way over the next few years.

There has already been a huge amount of positive feedback on the improvements to access funded by Cory and to the biodiversity on site funded by Wren.

But there is still a lot to do, not least of which is to get more community projects on site.

Woodland Trust has provided a small grant to get the Friends group up and running.

An initial meeting to discuss establishing a Friends of group is being held on Wednesday, September 28, at Derbyshire Hill Family Centre, Derbyshire Hill Rd, Parr, WA9 2LU

The St Helens Historical Society start their new season of meetings on Monday, September 19, with guest speaker Mark Olly.
