A 27-YEAR-OLD man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of breach of a Violent Offender Order after an eight hour stand off on a house roof came to an end last night.
The incident began yesterday afternoon at a property off Borough Road, St Helens after police had headed to an address.
A man had clambered on to the roof and police negotiators were sent to the scene to speak with him.
Nearly eight hours later he came down.
Police confirmed a man had been arrested and was being questioned at a police station on Merseyside.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "At around 2.30pm officers attended the address and the occupant went up on to the roof where he remained until around 10pm.
"A cordon put in place has now been lifted and all roads have re-opened.
"We would like to thank local residents for their patience during this incident."
A one-way street was closed between Eccleston Street and Duncan Street, heading away from St Helens towards Prescot.
The road closure caused traffic delays and disrupted bus services.
