AROUND 2,000 runners braved a snowy start this morning for the sixth GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k.

It what is believed to be the biggest field ever they were encouraged by large crowds along North Road and musicians around the course.

Many had their own inspirational stories including former rugby league player Tony Barrow who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour last year and who was joined on the challenge by an army of 30 supporters.
