A MAN in his 80s remains in critical condition following an alleged hit and run in Newton-le-Willows yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, February 9).

He suffered serious head injuries when his motorised pedal cycle was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa on Belvedere Road just before 2pm.

The pensioner was taken to hospital in Fazakerley.

A 50-year-old man from Newton was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

 


 

 

A 50-YEAR-old man has been arrested following an alleged hit and run in Newton-le-Willows earlier this afternoon in which a man in his 80s was left critically injured.

Police were called to Belvedere Road just before 2pm following reports that a man on a motorised pedal cycle had been in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa. 

The victim suffered serious head injuries and has been taken to hospital in Fazakerley.

A 50-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows  has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention. He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

The scene has been sealed to allow forensic investigations to take place and Belvedere Road is closed between Crow Lane East and Silverdale Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Police are also examining CCTV footage.
