Robbob captured this picture of demolition work on the gas tower on Jackson Street. It was a dominant feature on the St Helens skyline for decades until it was demolished in 2012.

Helena House was the fashionable place to be in the town centre. People of a certain generation still say its demolition was a travesty. Wilko now stands on the site.

 


 

St Helens Star: Demolition workers have rolled into Knowsley Road to flatten the town's historic rugby league stadium.

The demolition of Knowsley Road was a sad day for Saints supporters.

St Helens old covered market in the town centre was always bustling with shoppers.

 


 

St Helens Star: Some people suggested the Providence Hospital; but the roof doesn’t match.

Providence Hospital closed in 1982. Generations went through the doors and many were seen by the legendary Sister Duffy.
