DEMOLITION work is underway at the historic Hope and Anchor pub.
Dating back to the 19th century, news that the pub is to be pulled down has been met with sadness and disappointment by many.
Alan Healey chairman of the St Helens branch of CAMRA described its destruction as a "particular shame".
Regular Star contributor Robbob took this photo last night (Tuesday, August 25) of the old building on City Road.
The building is owned by Pilkington but they did not comment when contacted by the Star.
