ONE musician is loving life playing across venues around Manchester.

Al Roberts, 33, from Garswood is lead guitarist of four-piece band Darktown Jubilee. The indie group has released their second album 'City of Light'.

The band, which is also comprised of David Boardman, on vocals and guitar, Stuart Day on bass and Matt Sale on drums, released the album on Monday, July 20 as a follow-up to their well-received debut album ‘The World, The Flesh & The Devil’.

And they enjoyed a successful launch of the 11-track album at The Deaf Institute, Manchester on Saturday, July 11.

The band is described as combining the classic 80s sounds of New Order and The Smiths with more contemporary artists such as The Courteeners and Editors, hitting upon a formula that fuses simple strong melody and anthemic choruses with moody, edgy guitar and retro synths.

"I think it's a bit more edgy than the first one and probably a bit more indie too," says Al.

"The launch was great and well-received. We have always been an indie band and it's been quite a few years I've been with them.

"We've had various line-ups along the way and the current set up has been there just for just longer than a year and we get to play at some nice venues."
