A 55-YEAR-old man has died after he was struck by a train on Saturday.
The incident closed the track between Warrington Bank Quay station and Wigan for three hours.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to the Haydock branch junction, between Warrington and Wigan at around 1.10pm on Saturday following reports of a person being struck by a train.
“Colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police also attended but a 55-year-old man from Golborne was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
