IF Rob Heald really is striving to improve the shopping experience of customers in St Helens, he should return the benches that he removed.
It is the elderly and disabled shoppers who give the area the most support as they prefer giving local businesses their custom. Many live alone and enjoy the company of others in the Hardshaw Centre and it helps their wellbeing. Not everyone can afford to go into one of the cafes to sit, rest and chat.
There is plenty of space for those wishing to shop unhindered and if they made a bit of time to sit down they may even make some new friends.
