HERE is a picture of one of those jobs that were once so common, but which are now only remembered by the older generations.
It shows Dorothy Chinn, wife of Victor. She was a “clippy” on St Helens buses in the 1960s, says Kenneth J Chinn, who sent me the photo.
A clippy was a bus conductor who would walk around selling tickets. It’s a different world these days... you can even buy a bus ticket via smartphone and display it on the screen.
