UPDATE: FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a chemical spill on the M6 at Haydock.
They were called out to between junctions 22 and junction 23 at around 3.30pm.
Firefighters are dealing with a chemical that has leaked from a large goods vehicle.
Three fire appliances from Newton-le-Willows, St Helens and Aintree community fire stations have been called out.

THE M6 is closed both ways between junction 22 at Newton-le-Willows and junction 23 at Haydock Island after a lorry caught fire.
There is congestion back to junction 17 at Sandbach and 25 southbound at Bryn.
The lorry is on the southbound carriageway. There was a rolling road block at junction 21 around 3pm for another accident and an accident off the motorway near junction 19 has also led to major queues.
Northbound traffic should follow the black square diversion route and southbound traffic should follow the yellow triangle.
