Reader Ian Griffiths has pointed out the Royal British Legion and Women’s Weekly are each promoting projects involving crocheting or knitting poppies to commemmorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

“I thought it would be good to give it a mention in the Star, I'm certain the good people of St Helens could do us proud, what do you think?” asks Ian.
I hope those that can knit or crochet a poppy join in.
